Long-time Lawrence runner Grover Everett passed away last weekend. For years he ran with the Mad Dogs and Englishmen as well as riding the Octoginta every year and active with local orienteer events. After teaching at KU for 33 years he retired to Tucson, AZ. Memorial services will be announced later.

Grover (#883 in the photo) won the 1980 2 mile race in downtown Lawrence. You can retrace some of Grover's steps on Mass. St. by running the Ad Astra Irish Mile this March 17th on St. Patrick's Day.

Proceeds from the annual runLawrence Thanksgiving Day Run go to various local running programs. Below club VP Becky McClure presented the donation check to the LMH Health RunStrong Program; standing with her are the two scholarship recipients this year.

 

A week before, Thanksgiving Day Run race director Dee Boeck presented the check to USD497 to support the marathon clubs of Lawrence elementary schools. With Dee are USD497 representatives Denise Johnson, Megan Epperson and Kevin Etzel.

LIBERAL, Kan. (KSNW) – The 75th Annual International Pancake Day race was held in Liberal on Tuesday. It is a friendly competition between the women of Olney, England, and the women of Liberal.

KSCB News reports that Liberal’s Pamela Bolivar was the winner of the race. She is a 19-year-old native. Bolivar ran the race in 1:03.03. Last year’s winner, Isabelle Sullenger, came in second, and Minerba Lopez was third.

In Olney, Kaisa Larkas, won the race with a time of 1:03.37. Eloise Kramer came in a very close second, with Rebecca Budd in third.

Bolivar edged Larkas to give Liberal the win this year. Liberal leads the series 41-31. more

Another member's January result: Damon Mar was the 1st male in the 12 Hour race at the Cactus Roulette at Clinton State Park, Jan 27-28. The annual event was hosted by the Lawrence Trail Hawks.

And in Kansas City, Matt O'Reilly did the tunnel-to-tunnel option at the Groundhog Run. At 8 am, he ran the 5K (at 8 am) and placed 3rd (M35-59) in 18:57.7. Then at 10 am, he ran the 10K in 38:57.6 and placed 2nd in M35-59.
Also from Lawrence, in the 10K Austin Wohleb place 3rd (M20-24), Kim Luce came in 2nd in F20-24, Candy Davis 2nd (F65-69). In the 5K, E. Mast won the F14 & under category.

This week we congratulate Molly Wood for her 6th place (F65-59) finish in 2:07:58 at the 3M Half Marathon in Austin, TX. Our photo of Molly is from 2022.

Congratulations to Kent McDonald on winning the M70-74 category at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Sun, Jan 14. His time was 1:37:43.

And at Rockhaven Park another run with maps - the Orienteer Kansas event at Clinton Lake: a family came out with the other 80+ participants; and someone picked up a souvenir.
