Volunteers and donations needed for Longest Walk - to raise awareness about sacred sites and environmental concerns affecting Native American people.

The Longest Walk will be coming to Haskell April 29-May 1 (then leave for KC). They are walking from San Francisco to DC to raise awareness about sacred sites and environmental concerns affecting Native American people. For Lawrence, this is the Haskell Wetlands/Lawrence SLT issue. Haskell will be hosting the walkers (about 70 people) at the campus where they will be camping out.

We (the volunteers helping out with the Longest Walk) are responsible for making sure they get fed and maybe have a little left over for supplies like energy bars, Gatorade and most needed - gas money for the cars following the walkers. Rhonda LeValdo is the Haskell/Lawrence coordinator and is asking for our fellow runners/walkers in Lawrence for your help in making sure these walkers are shown the hospitality of this city. Any amounts, any volunteers willing to cook, any donations are being accepted! You can contact Rhonda at 785-840-7456 for more information. I am truly sorry I could not present this information in person, as I am in KC doing my radio show which airs every Sunday at 4pm. So that is the reason I am e-mailing. Thanks again, and please don't hesitate to ask any questions.
