Bill's Take: Those Other Races

Crazy Cow 5K

When: June 4, 2016

Where: Basehor-Linwood High School, Parallel St and 155th.

History: 4th running. Held in conjunction with the Basehor Dairy Days
Festival.

Course: Parallel St to 161st, then a side trip to the Basehor Library,
and back through two subdivisions. Long, gradual hills (not as bad as
they look!) Distance uncertified, but pretty accurate.

Scenery: Lightly traveled two-lanes.

Entrants: 37 female, 30 male

Last-minute entry fee: $30

T-shirt: technical, short-sleeved, charcoal with a nice network pattern.

Timing: Old-fashioned "punch the time and tear my tag off."

Awards: Cobra Command CrossFit gift certificates for the overall
winners. Medals (2) for age group winners.

Pluses: Cow pattern balloons. A few cow costumes. Cowbells used to
signal the Start and Finish. Followed by a full day of interesting, free
events at Dairy Days.

Minuses: No visible race clock.

Hat Tip: To the beginner who removed her tag and tied it to her shoelaces!

Bottom Line: Moo.

Photo of Bill Kinnersley.Bill Kinnersley, club member and former president, likes to travel to the smaller, less Big Show 5Ks at least monthly in the Topeka - KC area.  Many of these have under 200 participants and they all have lots of local color.  runLawrence will publish Bill's reviews of these races and perhaps they will encourage others to travel to and enjoy the unique qualities of each of these events.
