Photo of Greg Burger's Scream.Apr 27 - Edvard Munch's "Greg's Scream" - What did the Western States 100 do to cause Greg Burger to scream?  Was it the strain of completing 100 miles or when he found out his entry was accepted?  Come to the next runLawrence club meeting and find out.

Apr 17 - And they gathered at the Manhattan Running Company to remember. . .

Apr 16 - Jon's Minutemen - Yesterday, during the Boston Marathon, a cowardly act of terrorism occurred: two bombs at the finish line killed three people and injured over 150. Early in the day, Jon King invited people in Lawrence to do their part by running/walking/strolling to show those who would harm us that we won't be stopped by their cowardice. A crowd of about 100 joined Jon at South Park at 6:30 pm in a 5K run/walk to support Boston. Many people wore their connections to Boston and the marathon. more photos

Apr 15, Patriots Day - Two Tales of a City.

It was the best of times. Cooler tempartures than last year's heat wave helped the Boston Marathon winners. Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisa won 2:10:22 and Kenya's Rita Jeptoo won the women's race in 2:26:25. Lawrence KS runners finished all under 4 hours 10 min. - Tiffany Francis (3:35:11), Benjamin Jones (3:38:09) and John Frydman (3:48:00).

It was the worst of times. Francis had time to meet with her daughter to watch the finish. The clock read 4:10:00 before the first explosion near the finish. Over 100 spectators were injured, 3 died. A horrible scene. Our thoughts and prayers go to all the families. Like Munich in 1972 we will remember the deaths of the athletes at the Olympic Village. We also remembered Frank Shorter winning the marathon and the start of a running boom. To commemorate those who died and injuried, keep on running. Don't quit.

Apr 13 - While the big race in Kansas City that day was Rock the Parkway early Saturday morning, the KU Student Bar Association hosts the Race Ipsa 5K, a fun run each year. It's a low key event to raise funds for the Douglas County Legal Aid. Low key means staying on the sidewalks for the whole course.

Apr 7 - The rain held off for the Sunday edition of the Brew to Brew Run (below right). A Sat. Brew-to-Brew was mean for solo runners; Sunday was the usual relay teams. Click on the photo for the slideshow.

Apr 6 - Results are posted for the Run for Life 10 Mile. Dam Run results will be out later. At Kanopolis State Park, Gary Henry was doing his 50 miler. The photo (above left) by Rick Mayo proves Gary does not walk on water.
