MOP Run IV Sat, June 24, 2006

The race with the biggest time clock.

The 3 hour urban marathon training event with maps is back (OK, it is orienteering). Get in those miles and discovery some new facts about Lawrence.

The KU campanile will be used to time the event. Remember Abrahams in Chariots of Fire? Start will be on the first gong of the hour and the deadline to be back is before the first gong after 11:00 am.

The game: You will get an orienteering map of Lawrence, with few street names. Locate the control points (landmarks) marked on the map. Some are worth more points than others. Answer questions about the control on your scorecard. Collect as many points as you can. The event is setup for a 3-hour hunt, but you can come in under an hour and we group you in the 1-hour competition; under two hours for the 2-hour category. Group teams must stay together and not split up - you are on the honor system. Severe penalty points subtracted for coming back over 3 hours.

Mary Jones, president of Orienteer Kansas, will be this year's course setter.

Awards: to top scorers and by random drawing (any finisher can be a potential winner). Minimum 10 awards: top male & female 44 & under, male & female 45 & older, 1st two groups, 4 random drawings. If there are more pre-entries, we'll add more awards. Pre-registration is encouraged so we have enough maps printed.   entry form
