Meeting Minutes, Sept 3, 2006

The meeting was well attended especially considering this was a holiday weekend. A visitor, who is a graduate student at KU was welcomed.

The treasurer reported a balance of $1,152.04 with no outstanding debts. There are a couple runs from which we are due equipment rental income yet.

The main topic of discussion was our upcoming Thanksgiving Day 5K. Ed Payne, Gene Wee and Dee Boeck will be doing the course certification work in late September.

We are anticipating the same sponsors as last year, Francis Sporting Goods, Hy-Vee, Dillons, Great Harvest and Community Mercantile. Additional sponsor request letters have been sent out to other community businesses. So far a positive response has been received from Anthony Chiropractic.

It was decided that we will give out long-sleeve shirts made of a wicking material. Gene and Dee have received several quotes and will be making a decision shortly. The shirt will necessitate the raising of the race entry fee; however, it is felt that runners do not mind paying more if they receive a nice quality shirt that they can wear to run in.

Elizabeth Weeks came up with an artist who is interested in making our awards this year and we are in the process of working with her.

Fortunately, it appears that all the volunteer area heads will be back from last year. They are as follows:

Course marking and course marshals: Ed Payne, Greg Burger, Gene Wee

Aid Station set-up: John McClure & Tammy Spray

Handling pre-registrations: Gene Wee

Early packet-pickup & registration day before event: Dee Boeck & Fran & Dan Breslauer

Day of race registration & packet pick-up: Molly Wood

Finish Line & Timing: Becky McClure, Don Cackler & John Huchingson

Refreshments and Awards Presentation: Janet Huchingson

Results Tabulation: Celeste Leonardi and Bob Woods

We would like to have volunteer bike riders to lead the race and a follow bike to follow the last runner.

The names listed are only the heads of their area and each area will require several additional volunteers. We have had a few people already volunteer to assist in any area as needed and these will be assigned to specific areas as race day draws closer. Please consider volunteering to help at this race if at all possible.

Several club members announced their intentions to participate in some upcoming Kansas City races, so please check with us if you are ever interested in carpooling to area races. A few members are also marathon training right now for fall marathons and you are welcome to join in the training runs and in group travel arrangements.

It was agreed that the club would very much enjoy a New Years Day morning run and breakfast at the Huchingsons again this year.

We have had several new runners in Lawrence contact the club inquiring about group runs and we hope they will show up for the runs listed on our website. Please check the times carefully as with fall setting in, some runs will change times.
