Meeting Minutes, March, 2007

4:00 p.m.

  1. New members
    • We will focus on club membership at the next meeting
    • Ed advocated increasing the membership via promotion of the club by
      handing out information at runs and Francis Sporting Goods, club
      members wearing t-shirts, using the web site and developing a club
      banner
    • There have been membership renewals as well as three new members in February: Rhonda Levaldo, Kurt Schueler and Kathleen Lynch.
  2. Race sign mile markers
    • Ed brought a prototype to the meeting
    • Ed would like help from the members to make the mile markers
  3. Regular runs—time change
    • Dee will check the Wednesday start time with Molly
    • The Sunday 8:00 a.m. run will remain the same until the weather gets hot
  4. Discuss the establishment of beginner's runs
    • Greg has a beginning trail run group on Sundays
    • Having a regular group would require a high time commitment, since
      beginners do not remain beginners for long
    • Janet Huchingson is willing to meet and support new runners by appointment
    • Most beginners use a personal trainer
    • Dog Days has a regular run on Sundays that meets at 7:00 a.m. from
      Dunn Bros. on 23rd Street for all levels, coffee at 8:00
    • It was suggested that we pair inquiries with club members who would like to mentor new runners
    • It was suggested that we sponsor a beginning runners workshop in
      cooperation with a sporting goods store
  5. New IRS tax filing requirement
  6. Upcoming runs:
    • Shamrock Shuffle March 10, 8:00 a.m.
      Club members volunteered to assist with the finish
    • Dam Run March 24th
      Club members volunteered to assist
    • Brew to Brew April 1
      Member team will begin at 7:00 a.m. Dog Days will have several teams
    • Run for Life April 7th Is on the Washburn campus
    • Lawrence Half-marathon & 5K April 15
      The course has been certified
      There have been 235 entries so far, Steve expects close to 2,000 runners
    • Laps for Literacy on the KU campus April 14th is looking for volunteers
    • The School of Law has a run the same day from Burge Union
    • The Hilltop Hustle is April 28th, runLawrence usually does finish line
    • The Trolley Run is April 29th
    • The Trail Nerds are sponsoring a 100K at Clinton Lake April 28
