Meeting Minutes, May 6, 2007

Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 4:00 p.m.

1. Treasurer’s report:  The club has approximately $4,400.  We recently received a check for about $400.00 from the Dam Run.

2. Review/recap recent races:  Karen Hyde said the weather for the Boston Marathon was not as bad as advertised.  There were 16 area racers at the Lincoln half/full marathon.  There was enough help at the Hilltop run.  Although the field was small, the race went well.  Celeste Leonardi and Dee Boeck placed in the Heart and Soul 10K.  Gene Wee ran two sprint orienteering races in KC. The Lawrence Half Marathon was highly successful. A full marathon will be added in a couple of years.  $42,000 was raised for the clinic.  Steve Riley ran in a well-organized marathon in Columbus, Ohio.

3. Update on upcoming races: The club will help with the Pathways run on the levee May 19th.  Gene will take the clock for the Nash Dash.  The Wichita River Run is next weekend.  Red Dog’s Boys and Girls Club race is Aug. 11th.  The Unity Run will be August 4th or 5th under the direction of Chip Anderson.  The Horse Thief run is July 14th.  The Sandrat Trail Run is set for Oct. 7th.

Dates for 2008 races were mentioned as well:
March 29th Dam Run
April 5th Run for Life
April 6th Brew-to-Brew
Lara Burger is organizing a Veritas 5K run to Constant Park.  Heather’s
Run no longer exists.  Dennis Anthony wants to re-certify the Shamrock
Shuffle course.

4. New club member:  Nate Rovenstine visited the meeting.  He runs
regularly and was looking for other runners to connect with.

5. Volunteers needed for clock/finish line in upcoming races: We discussed using Raul Flores for results at the Thanksgiving Day Run.  He charges $1.50 per person.

6. Regular fitness runs include:  6:00 p.m. Wednesday evenings from LHS
with the Sandrats; Sunday 8:00 a.m. from Deerfield; weekday runs from
LAC with Molly Wood and Celeste.  Shannon Hodges has a running camp for women who want to add marathons to their skills.  She is offering one free week.
