Meeting Minutes, Sunday, February 5, 2012 (approved 3/4/12)

Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 4:00 pm.

Members present:   Barry Nason, Garrett Jones, Paul Boone, Gene Wee, Dee Boeck, LaRisa Lochner, Don Cackler, Lori Cackler.

  1. Treasurer’s report:  Dee reported a balance of $5650.

  2. Minutes approval:  Don moved the minutes of the January 2012 be approved as published, Dee seconded the motion and it passed.

  3. KU Running Club update:  Garrett reported  groups averaging 17 participants meet on Monday/Wednesday at 7:30 am and Tuesday/Thursday at 5:30 pm to run.  He has a web site under construction, however, most of their publicity has been via Facebook and word of mouth.  He will present a proposal to the administration soon to receive the official “sport club” designation.  The club received NIRCA acceptance on Feb. 5.  This acceptance would allow members to participate in a national run in Indiana at the end of March. Garrett plans a campus-wide kick off campaign Feb 28 to complete organization and to provide general information to full time undergraduate and graduate students who are thereby eligible to join the “KU Running Club.” runLawrence donated $300 to provide start-up funds to the club.

  4. RRCA runner friendly community:  Barry reported that the City of Lawrence is willing to pay for a road sign designating our city as a runner friendly.  Barry shared the two logos RRCA would prefer to be included in signage; however RRCA staff and City of Lawrence staff were otherwise nonspecific in the design.  Barry will check with other cities to see what they have done for runLawrence member consideration.  The RRCA plaque will most likely be displayed by Lawrence Parks and Recreation.

  5. Club picnic:  The depot in North Lawrence has been reserved from 5:00-7:00 pm for Aug 5, 2012 at a cost of $75.  The picnic will include the regular monthly meeting. Menu will be finalized at a club meeting closer to the date.

  6. Old business:  Dee welcomes member input regarding the Thanksgiving Day Run.  When she inquired, the ambulance service sent a billing, which she paid.  The last awards have been retrieved.  The members present felt that quality gloves or headbands in the packets are preferred over t-shirts in light of the number of participants.  Garrett suggested the option be offered to register at a lower price and forgo the packet item.  There was some discussion regarding the feasibility of using credit or debit cards for packet pick-up and/or day of race.

  7. New business:  LaRisa wondered if there were plans to make a new singlet order.  She has received many inquiries from fellow runners.  Dee will investigate opportunities.  The club clock and equipment are committed to the Dam Run and the Law School Ipsa 5K.

  8. Garrett won the raffle.

The meeting adjourned.
