Meeting Minutes, Sun, June 2, 2013 (approved July 7, 2013)

Quinton's, 4:30 pm

The meeting was held at Quinton's in downtown Lawrence.  Dee noted that by coincidence this is the very place the club was formed 10 years ago.

Present were:  Grace Krause, Dan Kuhlman, Jason Holbert, Becky McClure, Heather Krase-Minnick, John Hutchinson, Janet Hutchinson, Karen Hyde, Brett Young, Rachel Smith, Gene Wee & Dee Boeck

Treasurer's report was given indicating a balance of $10,423.77.  Approximately $1,500.00 was spent recently on a new smaller digital display clock, tripod stand and a nice sturdy carrying case.  This will be easier to handle and will be great for many of the smaller races which use our equipment.

Motion was made by Dee and seconded by Becky to approve last month's minutes as submitted.

Dan gave a report of his recent trip to the RRCA national convention in Albuquerque.  Dan prepared notes on the sessions that he attended and distributed copies to all members.  He felt this was a very worthwhile trip and recommended sending even more than one club member next year.  Dan also reported that he has now completed all the requirements to be an RRCA Certified Coach.

Dan also reported on the progress he has made getting a youth program established, especially for middle school students, and mainly targeting 6th graders.  He is setting up an advisory committee which will include school district employees, parents and club members before actually setting the schedule for the workouts, race dates, etc.  Dan is aiming for an implementation date in August.  Details will appear on the club website as they are finalized.

It was mentioned that some members would like to have more club clothing, such as jackets, perhaps.  We are looking for a volunteer to organize this.

Dee and Gene reported on progress with the Thanksgiving Day 5K.  Dee indicated she has arranged with a local artist to create special unique awards for the 10th annual running of this event.  She is also still in contact with Francis Sporting Goods regarding the give away to entrants and is again trying to come up with something unique and useful other than a shirt.  Necessary city permits are in process.  Anyone interested in volunteering to head up a committee, such as being in charge of course marshals or sending out sponsorship letters please contact Gene or Dee.

Several members indicated they have signed up for a strength training session through Runner's Edge and will be traveling to KC on Tuesday nights for the next 6 Tuesdays.

Meeting was adjourned.

Members stayed and socialized enjoying appetizers and talking about some of the many races club members have participated in this spring.
