Meeting Minutes, Sun, Dec 7, 2014

at LMH Meeting Room

Members in attendance:  Dee Boeck, Don Cackler, J. Jenkins, Grant Catloth, Becky McClure, Karen Hyde, Bill Kinnersley, and Heidi Matsakis

The meeting was called to order at 4:35 pm by runLawrence member and Thanksgiving Day 5K Race Director, Dee Boeck. President Heather Krase-Minnick and Vice President Dan Kuhlman were both absent from the meeting today.

The updated Treasurer’s report was also given by Dee as Treasurer, Jason Holbert was absent. She reported that the current bank statement showed a balance of $17,041.42 although Dee did mention that she was waiting for one more check to clear.

Minutes from November were passed out and no corrections were made.  Karen approved the minutes and they were seconded by Don.

Dee gave the members a report on the Thanksgiving Day 5K.  Dee had mentioned that she had received compliments about the pace signs.  Many of the members of runLawrence whom were volunteers for the race had also mentioned that they had heard a lot of positive feedback about how well the race was organized.  A few members offered suggestions to some items that should be considered for next year such as amount of fruit, having 2-3 volunteers who will serve as floaters on race day, and contracts or some sort of agreement for sponsors who are providing race day food and refreshments.  It was also mentioned that there were a few 5K participants who ran with dogs.  Although it is stated that “no dogs on leashes permitted” on the race registration form, there was a suggestion to post again possibly at packet pickup as a friendly reminder.

There was discussion about the distribution of proceeds from the Thanksgiving Day Run. We have provided previous recipients with a grant application form for this year with a Dec. 31st deadline. After that date, the applications will be reviewed. It appears we will be able to award around $6,500.

J. Jenkins and Grant Catloth of our local Garry Gribbles Running Sports came in to talk to us about change of ownership for Garry Gribbles and what it will mean for the community of Lawrence.  They have encouraged members of runLawrence to continue to come to the store and that at this time, all members of runLawrence will continue to have their discount be honored.  J. indicated there will be a larger inventory of sizes in stock as well as new brands of running related items.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm.  I left before the meeting was finished.

Addendum:

Dee announced that the RRCA had granted the 2105 5K state championship at next year’s Thanksgiving Day 5K.  The grant was applied for in November.

Also, at the January meeting officer elections will be held for the 2015 year.  Those members whom already hold an office or any other members whom are interested in holding an office should contact runLawrence (www.runlawrence.org) for consideration.
