The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) has selected the following four Kansas events as State Championship events for 2011.
Brew to Brew solo 43.5 ultra event, Sunday, April 3, 2011, 6:00 a.m., Kansas City to Lawrence, KS.
Run for Life 10 mile, Saturday, April 9, 2011, 8:30 a.m., Topeka, KS.
Johnston’s Wichita Half Marathon, Sunday, May 1, 2011, 7:30 a.m., Wichita, KS.
Miracle on Kansas Avenue 5k, Saturday, November 26, 2011, 5:00 p.m., Topeka, KS.
Brew to Brew has been selected as the RRCA 2011 Kansas State Championship in the ultra distance. Brew to Brew is a point-to-point relay/solo race organized by the KC Track Club (www.kctrack.org). The race course runs 43.5 miles along the north side of the Kansas River between the Boulevard Brewery in Kansas City to the Free State Brewery in Lawrence, Kansas. The race is a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For more information on this event please visit the website at www.brewtobrew.com.
Run for Life has been selected as the RRCA 2011 Kansas State Championship in the 10 mile distance. The race is a USATF certified 10 mile loop course and is open to both solo runners and relay teams. The mission of the Run for Life is to promote organ and tissue donation awareness. The race is organized by the Washburn University Running Club. Johnston’s Wichita Half Marathon has been selected as the RRCA 2011 Kansas State Championship in the Half Marathon. This loop course is a popular fast and scenic course running many miles along the river in Wichita. The race is organized by Run Wichita. Johnston’s Wichita Half Marathon helps support the Mother Mary Anne Clinic, whose mission is to provide accessible, low-cost health care for the uninsured, Medicaid and underinsured populations in Wichita, Kansas.
The Miracle on Kansas Avenue Rescue Run has been selected as the RRCA 2011 Kansas State Championship in the 5k. The Rescue Run is a flat and fast USATF certified 5k run along the annual holiday parade route one hour before the parade. All proceeds from the Rescue Run benefit the Topeka Rescue Mission which has served its community for more than 57 years providing food, shelter, clothing, training and hope to homeless and impoverished men, women and childen.
The goal of the RRCA Championship Event Series is to shine a spotlight on well-run events. Runners in each championship event will compete for RRCA State Championship awards in the open, masters (40+), grand masters (50+), and senior grand masters (60+) categories for both men and women.
