Jan 30 - 2019 Runner of the Year

Joe Moore, of Manhattan, is the 2019 Kansas runner of the year based on his two age-group records, three other age-group best times, three open qualifying times, and scores up to 90 percent on the World Masters Athletes charts.

Dee Boeck, of Lawrence, and Sheryl Drevo, of Goddard, were named honorable mention, and Chris Melgares, of Manhattan, and Don Turner, of Shawnee, received special mention. more

Things are looking up in the running world, at least according to RunSignUp’s Race Trends: Annual Industry Report, which was released this week. It found that participation in endurance events — which in addition to running events includes triathlons and some bike races — is up about 1 percent from 2018 to 2019. That’s good news for an industry that has seen decreased participation since 2013. more

Congratulations to Molly Wood on her 1:58:52 and 4th place finish (F65) at Sunday's 3M Austin Half Marathon. Another local runner was Darcy Letourneau (McLouth) finishing in 2:08:20.

1. New Year's Day - fine, warm weather greeted many groups with outdoor activities. Here is a shot by Anna Rachelle Catloth from the Ad Astra Running store before the group fun run.

2. And at Clinton Lake's Rockhaven Area, a record crowd for the orienteering. Fritz Menninger created a mass start course with forking legs to prevent blindly following each other and the course ended with a mini maze. See the photos.
