Stan Cottrell, 78, stopped in Lawrence on his 3,000 mile cross-country run from Los Angeles to Washington DC. this morning at the Union Pacific Depot. Among those who welcomed Stan to Lawrence were runLawrence members Jackie Wilson and Brenda Groskinsky as well as Dog Day's Red Dog Gardner. Lawrence, KS was the exact halfway point of his journey.

The real life Forrest Gump is on a mission to unite America with hope, health and friendship as well as raise money for multiple charities as he runs 30 miles a day, every day for 100 days.

Two-time Guinness World Record runner Stan Cottrell, 78, will be making a stop in Lawrence on his 3,000 mile cross-country run from Los Angeles to Washington DC. 

Friday, June 25, 10 am Union Pacific Depot.

Local officials will welcome Stan and make a few comments. You have a chance to talk with Stan and perhaps run a few miles with him.

His mission is to unite America with hope, health and friendship as well as raise money for multiple charities as he runs 30 miles a day, every day for 100 days. Stan’s doctors and trainers are able to track Stan’s vitals every step of the way using the most advanced technology in a wearable device. 

Stan began his cross-country journey on his 78th birthday, May 8th, in Los Angeles where he received an incredible send-off with community leaders, celebrities and cheerleaders wishing him well.

Our former club president is taking on more responsibilities for the Road Runners Club of America. Last week, Brenda Groskinsky was asked by the RRCA executive team to chair the new RRCA Board Development Committee. The committee's agenda will be to determine how RRCA Board candidates are recruited, vetted, and then selected.

"This opportunity will definitely be a new challenge for me. I'm very proud to be able to serve RRCA and our running clubs in this new capacity." - Brenda

Red Dog's Dog Days (free) workouts are back starting June 7 meeting Monday through Thursday with sessions at 6 am and 6 pm at the Lawrence HS track. Saturdays runs are back at 7 am at the Lied Center parking lot. More info: Bev Gardner

2021 May 9 Mother's Day 5K


Covid Pandemic safety measures limited attendance to 400 at this year's Mother's Day 5K at Corporate Woods. It was overcast and breezy but no rain. Carrie Mugridge was 4th overall. Dee Boeck was 1st in F70. Good to see several Douglas County runners at the event.
