Yes, Even Runners Get Heart Disease.
As he indulged in a jumbo sugar-covered fried pastry, the runner unabashedly remarked, “I’m skinny; I can eat this.” Well, the truth is even skinny runners die suddenly of heart attacks and strokes. Heart disease is the number-one killer, ahead of cancer, and accounts for one in four deaths. No one can out-run a bad diet. more (Nancy Clark, the Colorado Runner, Mar 18, 2022)

The March 23rd LMH Health Community Update mentioned runLawrence's support of the LMH Health RunStrong program.
"RunLawrence, a local non-profit running club, has generously donated funds to benefit the Lawrence community and members of LMH Health’s RunStrong program. Members of the organization presented a check in the amount of $500 to the RunStrong team on February 24. These funds will be used to pay enrollment fees for current or incoming high school students who normally would not have the opportunity to participate in the RunStrong program. The LMH Health Foundation matched the gift." more

In the book, Chasing Excellence, author Pat Melgares (Manhattan KS) tells the story of Dr. Joe I. Vigil, who rose from poverty to become a towering figure in the running world, having coached 19 national championship teams, 425 All-Americans and 22 Olympians, among other honors.
Pat created a blog sharing more stories about Vigil and his athletes, told by those who lived the experiences. The blog serves as bonus material for those who will read the book.

Magic Could Happen -
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The country’s fastest high school distance runners were circling the track on a recent weeknight as Andrew Young dangled from the back of a speeding golf cart with his camera. Young’s twin sons, Lex and Leo, whose YouTube channel has nearly 13,000 followers, had enlisted their father to record their team’s workout for posterity. The problem was they kept outrunning the golf cart...
It is no small thing for a public high school to produce one of the best milers in the country. Newbury Park has four of them...

Run trip to Texas! Tales from the Austin 3M Half Marathon
It’s all downhill from here! That’s something I expected to hear when I turned 50 last year, not at the start line of a half marathon. This, however, was exactly the case back in January, when a group of runLawrence members made the trip to Austin to run this event with our Texas bound snowbird, Molly Wood. It was a run trip of Lawrence girl power inclusive of myself, Molly, Dee, Becky, Heather, Elim, Kristen (and Dudley the dog!). more
