Meeting Minutes
September 4, 2005
We had another good turn out for our meeting with approximately one
dozen members present. I had calls from 4 or 5 others who wished
to attend but who had family obligations over this holiday weekend.
The first order of business was club member Fran Breslauer announcing a
landmark birthday and her plans to celebrate by inviting all club
members to stop by her house at 1736 Carmel Drive around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 for a piece of birthday cake!
Molly called in her Treasurer's report, stating we have a balance of $582.00.
Members examined samples of Asics clothing which we are going to use as
our club apparel. There were two styles of jackets and pants; two
styles of shorts; jog bras; and singlets. Interest was also
expressed in a short-sleeve t-shirt style top and these are also
available. The clothing is nicely made and the size is very
standard - you should be able to order your normal size in running gear
and get the right size. However, the samples are at Gene &
Dee's house and available for you to try on if you wish. The cost
will likely be less than listed as Francis Sporting Goods is offering
these to us as at cost. Our logo will be imprinted on the
singlets, bras, or jackets. Those present at the meeting decided
to go with navy blue as our club color, so we encourage all members to
order some navy apparel.
Another topic of discussion was plans for our Thanksgiving Day
5K. We have permission to use the Visitor's Center at the old
Depot as race headquarters again. Greg and Ed will try to
redesign the course so we are starting the race on the streets for a
few blocks in order to relieve the congested start on the levee.
Gene has done a draft of the entry form and everyone was happy with
it. All that remains before we can print and distribute it is to
finalize some sponsors. Volunteers agreed to contact the food
contributors last year - Dillon's, Hy-Vee, Great Harvest, Community
Merc - to verify they will provide fruit, drinks & baked goods
again this year. We need as many sponsors finalized as possible
so that we can put them on the entry form. If you have any
contacts with any other possible sponsors, please let us know
asap.
It is likely that we will again offer gloves (in lieu of a t-shirt) to
all entrants. We will use a different kind of glove than last
year as there were complaints that last years' gloves were on the small
side and not stretchy
enough for large hands. If the cost is not prohibitive, we will have our runLawrence logo imprinted on the gloves.
It was decided that we would use the same glass awards as we used last
year. Dee has contacted the artist and she is willing to paint
them for us again this year.
Several members present volunteered to assist with various aspects of
the race and more detailed discussions and commitments will be taken at
next month's meeting.
Gene Wee announced a club "social event" which he is planning - a December night trail run along the river levee trails.
Two "volunteer opportunities" were announced - the club will be
providing finish line services to two campus races - one is the Law
School run on Sat, Sept 24. The other is the Sun Run, Sun, Oct
9. If you are interested in helping with either of these events,
please contact me. Both races are on campus. Normally, we
train the organizations to do the work themselves and just have one or
two club members around to supervise and deliver and pick up the
equipment.
