Meeting Minutes, April, 2007 April 1, 2007 In the absence of President Don Cackler, Vice President Celeste Leonardi chaired the meeting. She gave a report from the Treasurer, Molly Wood, of a club balance of $4304.34. Shannon Hodges of RunEZ8, director/coach of a women only running program, including a true beginner'soption and an option for those who can run one mile, gave a presentation. It was agreed that this program would be a good fit with runLawrence's goals of encouraging beginning runners and we look forward to a mutually beneficial arelationship. We will ask Shannon to give her presentation again when we can publicized it beforehand. Gene Wee and Dee Boeck attended the volunteers meeting for the April 15th Lawrence Half Marathon and 5K. They appear to be very weill organized and a successful event is predicted, with weather the only upredictable variable. Several runLawrence members will be volunteering for or running in this event. It is expected to attract close to 2,000 participants. It was suggested by Janet and John Huchingson that the club arrange to have short presentations at club meetings which, if advertised in advance, would help increase meeting attendance. Club members themselves have knowledge and expertise that could be shared. Everyone agreed this was a great idea. It was also recommended that the club schedule more social outings and picnics. The club will issue membership cards to make it simpler for those businesses that offer discounts to current members. Good luck to several club members who will be running marathons in the next month including Karen Hyde (Boston), Peter Shaheed (Lincoln), and Jorge Carvajal (Boston), and any others we are not aware of. Please write up your experiences for the Second Wind. We now have out club banner which we can display at all club events. This was purchased with funds donated by Peter Shaheed. Dee Boeck |
