Thanksgiving Day 5K Update. Dee reported that the medals, which are of a brightly colored rubberized material, have been ordered and should be in shortly. Gene indicated the shirt design has been submitted to the printer. He is also checking into the possibility of printing posters with the same design to use for advertising the event in local businesses. We need to get sponsors secured asap to include them in the race entry forms. Those who have secured sponsors in the past are asked to please again verify the continuing sponsorship and notify Gene. He will have a draft of the entry form available at the August club meeting. There was a fair amount of discussion of an idea presented to offer a senior citizen’s or family discount on the entry fee. It was agreed that we would offer a family discount, with exact details to be worked out. We will also offer a complimentary entry to the overall male and female winner from last year. Ellen agreed to take responsibility for securing a DJ/announcer for the event. Ellen noted that the next event the club is committed to working with, the Boys and Girls Club 5K, is scheduled for Saturday, August 9 on the levee. Several members indicated they would be available to volunteer for this event. Paul’s name was drawn for the club t-shirt which was given away as a door prize for attending the meeting. There are many races coming up and members are always urged to contact other members to arrange for car-pooling. It’s more fun and saves on gas to go with others! The meeting adjourned.
