Meeting Minutes, June 1, 20084:00 p.m. - Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Conference Room Members present: Ellen, Dee, Becky, Greg, Gene, Don and Lori Treasurer's Report The balance in the club treasury is approximately $5,900. Latest receipts include $388 proceeds from the Dam Run as well as membership renewals and new memberships. Several members reported on recent running activities, including trips to the Lincoln Marathon/Half Marathon, One Hill of a Run 5K in Merriam, the Memorial Day Amy Thompson 8K in KC and the local Hilltop Hustle and Nash Dash 8K. Many club members car pooled to these various events and brought home awards as well as good-time memories. Please consider contacting a club member when you are traveling to an out-of-town race and joining in a car-pool. Upcoming events which club members plan to attend include Hospital Hill in KC, a trail run at Perry Lake, and the 5K which is part of the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina. Several club members participate in the local Red Dog's Dog Days fitness activities and the summer session is just underway. For more information, see the link to their website. Upcoming events which runLawrence will be involved in as volunteers include the June 14 Rock Chalk Run downtown and the Pathways 5K on June 21 at the SW Trafficway bike path. It was noted that although many races now hire a professional chip timing business to time their events, there are still at least a half dozen small events in town which continue to rent our club digital display clock, Seiko timers, and other finish line equipment. Discussion on the annual runLawrence Thanksgiving Day 5K included the presentation of two t-shirt designs. The members present approved one design and contacts will be made to get the shirts purchased and printed through Francis Sporting Goods. There was discussion about having posters printed using the same design. Gene will check into the cost of having posters printed. The artist will also be contacted about using her design for posters. It was moved and seconded to give the artist a free t-shirt and race entry for her work on the design. Dee displayed a sample of a medal option for awards. On a motion by Don, seconded by Dee, all present approved of the medal and these will be ordered through All Start Sports Awards. The need for a good sound system to be used outside before and during the race and possibly indoors for the award ceremony was discussed. Several club members indicated they knew someone local who might be interested and qualified in doing this and will check out possibilities. It was noted that Garry Gribble's Running Sports, which has three running supply stores in the KC area, is opening a store in downtown Lawrence. Opening is scheduled for June 9. Garry promises to be supportive of runLawrence and of local running events. The meeting adjourned. Lori Cackler |
