Meeting Minutes, Feb 1, 2009Members present: Ellen, Dee, Lori, Don, Gene, Steve and Celeste Treasurer's Report: the balance is $8,216.71. The check for the junior high cross-country program for $3,000 in care of Lawrence Free State High School has been cashed. It was decided that this year’s Thanksgiving Day 5K will be held at the same venue as in the past. Much higher costs would be incurred were we to move the event on campus or to some other location. Garry Gribble’s Running Sports made an offer to be the sole sporting goods sponsor of the event, which would eliminate our long running sponsor, Francis Sporting Goods, which has also expressed an interest in continuing its sponsorship. After much discussion, a motion was made by Dee, seconded by Celeste, that we retain Francis Sporting Goods as the primary sponsor. There was much appreciation expressed for Garry Gribble’s long-standing support of KC area runs; however, it was noted that the run has been very successful for the past 5 years and there was no reason to expect that would change under the continuing sponsorship of Francis Sporting Goods. The motion passed with 3 ayes, 2 nays and 2 abstentions. Possible club purchases of computer software and traffic cones. There was very brief attention to this item and then it was tabled until a future meeting. Club social event: Celeste will explore opportunities for members to meet for dinner, possibly at a local restaurant. Brew-to-Brew team: Dee completed the application form and collected registration fees. Dam Run: Gene will meet with Duane Peterson/city staff to finalize the new route. 08 memberships have expired. Members can give checks to Gene or renew/join online. The March meeting will need someone to preside at the meeting. Other business: Members reported the Groundhog Run was well done and crowded. The FSHS race coordinator (Nora Sakamura) for Run for Erica has contacted Dee but they have not connected regarding specifics. Ellen e-mailed her about putting a donation jar at the Dam Run but has not had a response. submitted by Lori Cackler |
