Club Meeting Minutes
Sun, October 7, 2018
(approved Nov 4, 2018)
Present: Brenda Groskinsky, Gene Wee, Dee Boeck, Becky McClure, Molly Wood, Doug Hewitt, and Karen Hyde
Brenda called the meeting to order.
We reviewed the September club minutes. Dee moved to approve the minutes as written; Gene seconded, and all approved.
Gene gave the treasurer’s report. The balance as of Sept. 30 was $11,427.51 and as of Oct. 5 was $10,027.51. The check issued previously to Quail Run Elementary was returned and a new check for $550.00 was issued. For a full treasurer’s report go to the runLawrence website and see the “About Us” section.
runLawrence club calendars were available to purchase. Brenda reminded us that the calendar committee consisted of Gene, Becky and Brenda. We placed an initial order of 25 calendars at a cost of roughly $10.00 per calendar. Calendars will be for sale during T-day packet pickup and at the merchandise table at the race (in addition to availability at future club meetings?). Cost for members is $15 and for the public $20.
Brenda will check on whether we need to pay sales tax for the calendars.
Gene mentioned that 2019 club memberships are now being accepted. The price is still $20.00 for individuals. We discussed whether to offer a $5.00 discount on club memberships for race participants who want to join. We decided not to offer the discount mainly because our membership fee is already very reasonable.
Dee gave the T-day race report. She passed around the medals that VanGo made for overall winners and age-group winners. The order for the gloves is in process, and gloves will be printed with our logo. Gene mentioned that we can save $3.00 on the price of volunteer t-shirts if we use white for the shirt color. Members present said that they would support using white; Gene will investigate more. Gene also mentioned that this year we will need more course marshals due to the changes we made to the course. (Changes were made to diminish the congestion in north Lawrence neighborhoods during the race.) He said that he wants to have two experienced course marshals in some spots because they will have to move barriers during the race. Also, this year the club will mail notices to people in the north Lawrence neighborhoods affected by the route, and Woodlawn students will distribute flyers as in previous years.
