Coming out this September is a new book by Charles B. Kastner on the Race across America: Eddie Gardner and the Great Bunion Derbies. Club member Dick Lipsey helped edit the book.
In two epic footraces across America in 1928 and 1929, an African American runner, Eddie "The Sheik" Gardner withstood daily death threats and intimidation to compete at the highest levels of the new sports of trans-America racing, and became a symbol hope and pride to Black America for his courage. more

Dog Days, Red Dog’s: For decades, Don "Red Dog" Gardner has led the Lawrence community in summer fitness workouts. Red Dog and his wife Bev and their leaders will begin workouts again June 3rd. The summer schedule is Monday through Thursday with sessions at 6 am and 6 pm outside of the Lied Center.

Todd Chandler is one of the best chroniclers of local trail events. The "Bridge of Death" is a tribute to the Skyline Shuffle 5K at Clinton State Park hosted by the Lawrence Trail Hawks. You expect a fun time when the event mascot is a pterodatyl.
