17 July 23 SSG Orienteering

Link to permanent course at the Woodridge Area at Clinton Lake.

The basic directions are that the controls are marked with red and white 4 x 4 inch markers. Markers are attached on the north side of a tree at the center of each circle.
As of February 2016, all of the markers were in place except for number 8. Number 8 was marked with orange tapes on a tree.
The course is designed to be used when the leaves are down or just starting to bud. It is not designed for use in the summer.

The 2014 Sunflower State Games Orienteering Event was held at Gage Park in Topeka, KS. Mary Jones was the race director, Mike Eglinski the mapmaker and Paul Clatterbuck, the course setter.

First place coed team and second overall at the Sunflower State Games Adventure Racing Race - Sandy Beverly, Fletcher Hamel and Mike Eglinski. Held at Milford Lake, they ran, biked, ran, biked, then climbed over a wall, flipped a tractor tire, canoed, then biked. Envy the Pink. Results

Check out Mike Eglinski's video of his run at the Kill Creek Sprint event complete with video (no sound) and active-map. You can follow his route with what he saw on the map and what was really in front of him. The video even orients the map for you (beginners: this is Orienteering 101). Good armchair orienteering.
